Our History

Calvary IB is a ministry of Calvary Chapel San Diego (CCSD) and an extension of Pastor Bryan Newberry’s philosophy of ministry represented through Pastor Sammy Sandino’s vision, direction, and care. These two are a common fellowship. Paul said this to the Corinthian church and I believe it is a good description of what God is doing here in our fellowship as well, “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1 Corinthians 1:10)

The work that God is doing in Imperial Beach is a direct result of our prayers at CCSD for the last several years. We have been praying, for God to expand our territory, influence, and make us a blessing. “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!’ So God granted him what he requested.” (1 Chronicles 4:10) 

The purpose of the Calvary IB is to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to whoever will listen and to continue expanding our influence in the South Bay. Our desire is to reach the area of I.B. with a clear message: “…I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” (1 Corinthians 9:22)
